This is our favorite Chinese restaurant. They are very family friendly. They can convert several of their dishes to gluten-free if you ask. Lately Shellie has been ordering a gluten-free Empress Chicken. They make it without breading or soy sauce. Just ask for Shellie and Steve's regular order. If they look confused tell either Tony or the owner that Maggie and Anna say, " ni hao"!

This is our favorite Thai restaurant. They are very family friendly. Mao, the owner/chef, says almost everything on the menu is safe, just let her know so she can double check. One of our favorites is the Panang Chicken Curry, no modifications necessary. The last time we checked, even the rice noodle dishes were safe.
Also, Mao has recently added a Sushi Bar.

Ask for the for Dave or Mary, the owner operators. Their kids are celiacs and they are careful with the order, if you tell them you need GF. Their staff is "still learning," but they said that they would take care of you.

"Ask the hostess for the gluten free menu when you are seated, and also let your waiter know. When the manager heard that someone was "allergic" to flour, he came right out with the gluten free menus and told us that they understand the dangers of food contamination in the kitchen. He was very helpful."

Iowa Cubs
"The Iowa Cubs are now carrying Redbridge gluten-free beer. You can't buy it at the normal concession stand - it is located close to the merchandise shop. It is nice to be able to go to a baseball game and have a beer. Thank you Iowa Cubs!"

Not so local:
1006 Howard St.
Omaha, NE 68102

This is not a central Iowa restaurant, but well worth the trip!
We were headed for the Indian Oven right next door when we saw the "Persian Cuisine" sign, and a menu in the window. When we stepped up to check out the menu a man came out and told us we should come in for some great food. Of course the owner, Ahmad Nazar, is biased but he was also right. It was wonderful!
He sat us down, gave us a little time to let us look at the menu and then started making suggestions. We told him we had couple of dietary problems to work around, gluten-free and diabetic. He said no problem. He said that there was a recent gluten-free meeting in Omaha and that several of the attendees ate all their meals there.
After the meal and while sipping some great Turkish coffee, I told him about our website. He said that anyone that comes in and mentions that they came because of this web site can have "a free glass of wine or something".
Go for the atmosphere. Go for the friendly service. Go for a free glass of wine. But most of all go for the food!
